Highschool Gossip--the ugly truth
It goes without saying that as high school students we have an urge to gossip. Whether it be about what the girl next to you is wearing, your ex boyfriend or girlfriend, or a fight with your friend, every conversation seems to turn into a gossip session when you’re in high school. And while this gossip may seem detrimental to some, it is also what leads to some of the most intriguing topics for journalism students. While it’s pretty safe to say that no one really wants to read an article about you and your friend complaining about what the girl or guy next to you is wearing, as interesting as the conversation may be, this topic can be turned into an article on high school trends and fashion, something that is much more relatable to all students. Everyday topics of conversations are turned into article topics by high school journalism students, something that truly helps make articles personable and relatable. For example, an article about the student body trip taking a turn for the worse after students brought alcohol, or an article about the teenage student who is currently 6 months pregnant, or even an article on the drama of the school administration are the everyday gossip topics that make high school journalism that much more intriguing. However this gossip, usually leads to articles that administrations are most likely to censor, for they tend to be more risqué topics. In addition these topics are the ones that are most subject to harm the reputation of schools. Whatever one may believe about these topics, it goes without saying that some of the best articles come out of gossip.
